A mortise exit device puts the latch inside the door, where it's protected from tampering and abuse. Shop Sargent mortise exit devices, including the Grade 1 8900 Series for wide stile wood and metal doors and the 8300 Series for narrow stile doors, in mechanical, fire-rated, and electrified versions with E, F, J, and G rails. In stock at Commercial Door Hardware.
Why Choose a Mortise Exit Device
Every exit device has to latch the door somewhere. A rim device latches with a bolt mounted on the face of the door into a strike on the frame. A vertical rod device latches at the top and bottom of the door. A mortise exit device latches through a mortise lock body installed in a pocket cut into the door edge.
That pocket is the point. The latch mechanism sits inside the door, where it's far harder to pry, tamper with or damage than surface-mounted hardware. The result is a cleaner appearance and better resistance to attack, which is why mortise exit devices are a common choice on perimeter doors, main entrances and high-abuse openings in schools and public buildings.

Sargent 80 Series exit devices are offered in most standard finishes but not in 626/US26D satin chrome, so 630/US32D satin stainless is the usual match where locksets elsewhere are satin chrome. Availability varies by model; confirm on the product page.
Finish codes follow the BHMA system, with the older US designation shown alongside. The two codes describe the same finish, so 630 and US32D are interchangeable on a hardware schedule.

Commercial Door Hardware supplies door hardware for schools, healthcare facilities, offices, retail, hospitality and institutional buildings across the country, carrying exit devices, exit trim, locks, cylinders, closers, hinges, thresholds, weatherstripping and the parts that go with them from Sargent, Von Duprin, Corbin Russwin, Accentra, Schlage, LCN, Norton and Pemko.
Mortise devices depend on door prep, stile width, and function. We help match the device, trim, cylinder, and strike to your door before it ships.
Every item in this collection is in stock at Commercialdoorhardware.com and ships the same day, because a failed exit opening is a life safety and security problem rather than a maintenance item.
